Information for Mentees

Why Become a Mentee?

Mentee1

Are you in control of your life? Is your career progressing according to a plan? Do you know where you are heading and the steps needed to achieve your goals?

Mentoring allows you to focus on how you can forward your career and overcome work related issues. A mentor can provide guidance, support and space for you to think.

Women in SET face many issues and you may need a mentor with particular expertise or experience rather than one who has followed exactly the same career path. MentorSET can help.

These are some reasons for needing a mentor:

Mentoring partnerships usually last two to three years, but you may be looking for a quick boost, help with learning a specific skill. MentorSET caters for both situations.

At present the MentorSET scheme is open only to mentees who are members of WES (easy to join) or one of the affiliated groups which include Cambridge AWiSE, Women in Physics Group from the Institute of Physics, BCSWomen, Women@Cl and present Daphne Jackson Fellows.

Mentorset is free but in return we expect mentees to give as much as they receive, by becoming a mentor and helping another MentorSET mentee, either now or at sometime in the future. We encourage women who are mid career to apply to be both a mentor and a mentee. You do not need to be at the top of your profession to be a MentorSET mentor and you will gain more by being both a mentor and a mentee.

Please see our "MentorSET Application form" page for more details.
